Christopher Booker’s theory suggests we don’t do it alone. The second of his 7 key narratives celebrates the opportunity to be born again. We shed a skin, we emerge from a cocoon, are born again from flames.
This is a great narrative for brands, businesses, and teams. Its unique structure gives it power, insight and the opportunity to draw a bright new future:
- This is as much a story of rescue as it is of renewal
- There’s a trauma or crisis which weakens the protagonist
- A third party (person, event, instrument, insight, etc.) comes to the rescue (purposefully or not)
- Therefore the protagonist doesn’t struggle for rebirth, it happens with third party help
- In the Rebirth story (as opposed to the Hero’s story), the focus is on the almost miraculous transformation, the wonderous result rather than the effort.
So, what’s your team’s crisis? What/who is your third party? And what is your story of awesome team rebirth? This story allows you to draw a rich colourful future without emphasising the effort.
P.S. I don’t think this story is the same as me bursting out of my clothes over Xmas due to too many mince pies – but perhaps it is!
