This IS your beautiful house. But HOW did you get here?

HACK IT!

(If you are not in the mood for this today, skip to the brilliant video at the bottom).

I was born with no sense of direction. I get lost everywhere. And because I’m also a ‘go with the flow’ sort of gal, I also don’t bother to remember directions others give me while I’m driving – so I get to the right place but have no recollection of how.

Fortunately, due to my fascination with how our minds work, the same can’t be said about what I find works or doesn’t for reaching my goals.

We are all different. What works for me won’t necessarily work for you. You might be addicted to the dopamine hit of crossing something off your list whereas I get a dopamine hit from starting something new. External accountability works for me but might be less powerful for you. Making something more fun might help me through the ‘sloggy’ parts of a task but you might find that a distraction.

And so we come to the final component of the Achievement Accelerator (phew!).

We have set ourselves up for success. We’ve reviewed the 3 elements of the Challenge Mindset (Curiosity, Commitment and Courage), We’ve created the right environment in which we can most easily succeed and we’ve devised processes that, when repeated will deliver our goal.

And then we started building our momentum using curiosity (again), building habits that deliver effortlessly and taking key tasks and processes from the to-do list to schedule them in a calendar, as if they were meetings, to ensure we get them done.

When faced with the challenge of maintaining the behaviours, we’ve invested in an identity that we can reinforce and which will be reinforced by our behaviours – identity is the strongest predictor of behaviour. We are the sort of person who does x. We’ve harnessed some form of accountability for when the going gets tough.

And now we’re going to review what worked and what didn’t for our own personal psychology.

Your Personal Achievement Keys

If you’ve followed any part of this process you’ll become aware of what works for you.

Stay curious and you could discover more keys/hacks that work for you.

Next time you want to work towards a challenge, don’t waste your time on what everyone else says works – you now know what works for you – so use that.
