It was a privilege to attend the #vividsydney event featuring the esteemed Lisa Wilkinson interviewing the remarkable Gretchen Carlson.
My pen was smoking taking notes on various aspects of Carlson’s experience and learning.
Just a taster:
- Speaking up didn’t just just have immediate personal consequences. When you speak up it changes your whole trajectory – and that of others.
- There are still women ‘straddling the fence between helping women and trying to be accepted into the boys club’. ‘We need to extend the olive branch to men, we need men to help us lift women up’
- What courage are you transferring to your children? What courageous example are you setting? Are you modelling courage?
- It’s never too young for girls and boys to have knowledge of how to treat each other
- Don’t underestimate your power to change big things
- Don’t accept compulsory arbitration in your employment contract – it means you will not be able to discuss any settlement as it is decided outside court. This relates to US law. I’d like to learn more about how it works in Aus and UK.
