Perfectionism Is On The Rise, And That’s Bad For All of Us

Straight out of uni, I was told to be prepared for interview questions about my strengths and weaknesses. The weakness question was always tricky, but I was advised that the best response was,

‘Well, I have to admit to being a bit of a perfectionist.’

What’s not to love about someone who is going to be completely dedicated to delivering the absolute best results for the company and will always go the extra mile to do so?

Roll the clock forward a few decades and things have changed. While we still want to serve our clients and stakeholders well – even to delight them, perfectionism as a driver is now accepted to be a sign of deeper problems and to result in limiting the value an organisation, department or individual delivers.

However, research shows that society is creating perfectionists in even greater numbers than before. How can we spot the problem, what are the implications for business and what can we do about it?

Over the next few days I’ll be sharing 3 signs of prefectionism, 3 consequences and 3 ways to combat it.

Let’s see perfectionism for what it really is and set ourselves free!

Live brave!
