You’ve probably heard that women are more emotionally tuned in than men.
And you may know that EQ is a stronger predictor of success than IQ.
But did you know that men and women have the same level of EQ? Does that surprise you?
Of course, we are talking about averages here. There’s no reason men and women can’t work in the same way. However, there is a difference in the TYPE of EQ men and women are stronger in.
Dr Shawn Andrews reports in his book: The Power of Perception: Leadership, Emotional Intelligence and the Gender Divide, on average, men are stronger in the type of EQ that provides assertiveness, stress tolerance and self-regard (or confidence).
While women score higher on the type of EQ that relates to others: empathy, interpersonal relationships and social responsibility.
Having been raised in the era of Margaret Thatcher, I’m not going to tell you women leaders are more caring than men, only that on average, we have a slightly different set of skills to bring to leadership teams.
Why not try being more WOMAN this week?
- Invite other’s views before making a decision you usually make alone and see what happens
- Collaborate with someone on a project you don’t usually work with and see where it takes you
- Instead of coming to a conclusion, try asking a question and see what you learn
If you’ve already done these things, drop a line in the comments and share what happened.
