Over the course of this week I’ve introduced you to Tigers, Labradors, Whales and Hawks – each with great – and also with some unhelpful – behaviours when they’re stressed.
How’s it going in your team? Are the Whales feeling overpowered by the Tigers and the Tigers frustrated by the slowness and intransigence of the Whales?
Are the Hawks deflating the Labradors and the Labradors bouncing all over the Hawks?
Here’s a better way. Let the Whale plan the trip, having studied the area at length beforehand. Let the Tiger do the driving. You’ll get there faster, safer and more enjoyably.
Encourage the Labradors and Hawks to design together – the vision and the engineering. Working together they can come up with something more amazing that actually works!
The biggest challenges to building rapport are differences in energy, learning to speed up/slow down and be more or less expressive.
Teams are like bodies. Toes don’t need to be able to type if you have fingers. Lungs don’t have to push the blood around your body, but there’s nothing better for breathing with. INTERDEPENDENCE is the key to a fulling functioning team.
Hurray for Menagerie Teams!
